Another icy morning forecast, with snow to north and west

February 08, 1994|By From Staff Reports

Get ready for another dose of winter -- but this one, at least, is expected to last no more than a day.

The slippery trinity of snow, sleet and freezing rain was expected to develop by dawn today across most of Maryland. Rain was expected for Southern Maryland and the Lower Shore. Other sections were expected to see icy weather.

One to 5 inches of snow was forecast for areas north and west of Baltimore before the change to sleet, freezing rain and then all rain by early tomorrow, the National Weather Service said.

The heaviest snow amounts in the Baltimore area were predicted for northern Baltimore County and Carroll and Harford counties, with more of a mixture -- and lesser accumulations -- in Howard County, closer to the city and in areas to the south and east.

Temperatures were expected to reach the 40s in Western Maryland and near 50 elsewhere tomorrow, with rain in the morning -- conditions that were likely to wash or melt away the mess.
