Bowie falls to Cheyney

FREDERICK — CHEYNEY, Pa. -- Cheyney University built a 10-point halftime advantage -- led by Desmond Washington with 16 and Derek Brown with 15 -- and rode out the second half to down Bowie State, 78-72, in a Division II game yesterday.

Brian Brooks scored a game-high 23 points and Kevin Purnell added 18 for Bowie State (10-10).

Bowie State shot 44.4 percent from the floor and committed 22 fouls, 12 more than the Wolves.

Frederick 107, Takoma Pk. 87

FREDERICK -- Keith Thompson (Lake Clifton) scored a game-high 41 points, leading Frederick Community College (15-7) past Takoma Park (4-14).

Thompson, who shot 17-for-29 from the field, also had 10 rebounds.
