No. 3 Northeast tops Broadneck

No. 3 Northeast beat No. 14 Broadneck, 175-163, yesterday in the host Bruins' eight-team wrestling invitational.

Champs for the Eagles (10-1) were the top-ranked defending state champion Kusick twins, Marty (112 pounds, 18-1) and Mike (119, 19-0), No. 6 Matt Jewer (135, 19-1), No. 2 Steve Smiddy (140, 18-1), Jason Grunder (152, 13-5) and Ron Katzenberger (160, 17-4).

For Broadneck, Jake Schaeffer (171, 24-1) got his 16th fall and heavyweight Pete Borradaile (20-5) got his 17th over Dan Defenbaugh (Northeast) to avenge an earlier loss.

Southern's lone champ was second-ranked Tyrone Neal (125, 21-1).
