MODELS OPEN

Orchard Glenn

1.Ryland Homes recently opened the Whitman model at Orchard Glenn, where the company is building 49 single-family homes in Randallstown in western Baltimore County. The Whitman is a 1,160-square-foot, split-level home with a base price of $136,900 for the "country" exterior without a garage. Add the two-car garage and the cost is $140,900.

Choose the "traditional" Whitman and the prices are $137,900 for the base house and $141,900 for the garage model.

"I live in a split-level and they make nice retirement homes because there are no long stairways to climb," said Betty Hubschman, a sales assistant at Orchard Glenn. "The Whitman has only seven steps between levels and all three short stairways are equipped with handrails."

The entry foyer in the Whitman leads to the 13-by-13-foot living room, on the same level as the U-shaped kitchen and the dining room, which can be opened to the outdoors with optional sliding doors for $900.

Up seven steps is a 13-by-13-foot master bedroom with walk-in closet, which can be converted to a master bath for $2,600. Two additional bedrooms and a hall bath complete the level.

Seven steps down from the living room is a 28-by-22-foot area that can be finished with an optional family room and powder room for $6,600. A masonry fireplace costs $4,800. The laundry room is also on this level.

Down from the family room the Whitman has a crawl space which can be expanded to a full, unfinished basement for $3,900.

The Whitman can also be bought at Sunset Ridge and Pikewood Village in Pikesville. The sales center at Orchard Glenn is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. Take Interstate 695 to Liberty Road West. Go one mile to a left on Rolling Road, to sales center on left.

Reserve at Timbergrove

2.Pulte Home Corp. is building models of two one-story condominiums at the Reserve at Timbergrove in Baltimore County, where 96 homes will be built.

Both units are 1,016 square feet and built with a "split-bedroom" design -- which increases privacy by separating the two bedrooms.

The homes come with appliances, including washer and dryer, and gas heat, cooking and hot water. Other features include an )) enclosed secured entry, a community pool and a clubhouse.

The Stratton, selling for $85,990, has two bedrooms, including an 11-by-18-foot master suite, two full baths, living and dining rooms and kitchen.

The Talbot has two bedrooms that are smaller, to accommodate a 12-by-11-foot den. The $86,990 price includes two full baths, kitchen, living and dining rooms.

When located on the top floor, either unit can be expanded with a 17-by-13-loft with spiral staircase over the dining room for $11,750.

The sales center is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Take I-695 to I-795 West to Franklin Boulevard East across Reisterstown Road, where it becomes East Cherry Hill Road, and follow the signs to sales center.
