Man, 44, accused of manslaughter in brother's death

February 03, 1994

A 44-year-old Deale man was charged with manslaughter yesterday after his brother died from a gunshot wound received while the pair were playing with a gun last month.

George Stanley Lockwood of the 14000 block of Tollgate Road in Hancock was being held in the Anne Arundel County Detention Center on a $225,000 bond.

His brother, Eugene Lockwood, 50, of the 5900 block of Second St. in Deale, died Sunday at the shock trauma unit in Prince George's Hospital Center, police said.

Police spokeswoman Faye Scheibe said the brothers and several other people were drinking during a party at George Lockwood's home at 6:49 p.m. Jan. 22 when they started passing around a .44 Magnum and admiring it.

George Lockwood put the gun to his brother's head and then moved it away. It accidentally went off, hitting Eugene Lockwood in the chest, Ms. Scheibe said.
