Blaze destroys horse farm's barn in Fowblesburg

For the second time in a year, a barn at the horse farm of Myron Almony in Fowblesburg has burned to the ground.

Two other barns in Carroll and Baltimore counties, within a one-mile radius, also were destroyed Jan. 12 and June 18.

Baltimore County fire officials said the second fire at the Almony farm was discovered shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday, bringing engines from Hampstead, Reese to assist seven pieces of equipment from Baltimore County.

Officials estimated the loss at $95,000.

The farm is in the 5600 block of Emory Road, on the Baltimore County side of the line.

On Jan. 12, a large barn on the Christmas tree farm of I. Watson Davidson, in the 1100 block of Emory Church Road, was destroyed in a three-alarm blaze that caused more than $100,000 damage.

A barn in the 5700 block of Emory Road was destroyed June 18.

The first fire at the Almony farm was Feb. 2, 1993.


* Lineboro: Firefighters from the Lineboro station responded to a building on Rockville Road in York County, Pa., for an electrical fire at 8:14 a.m. Sunday. They were out for 34 minutes.

* Manchester : The Manchester, Hampstead and Lineboro fire companies were dispatched for a chimney fire in a house in the 3100 block of Main St. in Manchester at 4:54 p.m. Saturday. Units were out for 32 minutes.
