County wants to meet with phone companies

February 01, 1994

Mobile telephone companies interested in building communications towers in Carroll should meet with government officials to explain their plans, the county commissioners said yesterday.

Cellular One and Bell Atlantic want to build towers in Carroll. Many residents have opposed the plans.

Earlier this month, the county planning commission said it would do a comprehensive study of telecommunications towers.

The Board of Zoning Appeals has given Cellular One approval to build two towers -- one in Sykesville and one in Frizzellburg.

The commissioners plan to contact phone company officials in an effort to set up meetings.
