Knights are offering $1,000 scholarship

The Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen Council 7612 of the Knights of Columbus is sponsoring a $1,000 four-year scholarship to a graduating senior in the South Carroll County area.

Only those applications postmarked by March 31, 1994, will be considered by the Scholarship Committee.

The scholarship has been established in memory of Robert H. Clark, an educator in Maryland public schools for many years and a member of Knights of Columbus Council 7612.

Graduating seniors are eligible to apply for the scholarship if they are in good standing, live in the South Carroll area as defined by the school boundaries of Liberty and South Carroll High schools or are members of St. Joseph Catholic Community.

The student must also be a child whose father (living or deceased) is or was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 7612. The student must also have been accepted at an accredited college or university.

Any graduating senior interested in submitting an application should send a postcard or letter requesting an application to the Scholarship Committee, Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen Council 7612, Knights of Columbus, P.O. Box 1226, Sykesville 21784.

FIRE

* Oklahoma: Sykesville, Gamber and Liberty Road of Baltimore County were dispatched for a chimney fire on Forest Lane at 1:34 p.m. Friday. Units were out for two hours.

* Eldersburg: Sykesville responded to a call of wires arcing on Freedom Avenue at 9:06 a.m. Friday. Units were out for 15 minutes.
