Man, 2 juveniles charged in robbery of Severn man

A 22-year-old man and two juveniles were arrested early Thursday and charged with assaulting and robbing a Severn man, county police said.

William Stokem, of the 500 block of Donaldson Ave., was walking on Aquahart Road near Crain Highway about 1 a.m. when he was approached by three people who hit him and took his wallet. A police officer and his dog, Baron, picked up a trail and followed it to a nearby street, where the three were arrested.

Daniel B. McLaughlin, 22, of the 1000 block of Somerset Drive in Glen Burnie, was charged with robbery and assault and battery. The names of the juveniles, who face the same charges, were not released.

Glen Burnie squadron honored for successes

The Arundel Composite Squadron of Glen Burnie has been named the Civil Air Patrol-Maryland Wing's 1993 squadron of the year.

The squadron received the top honor for its 150 percent growth rate, and for training six new ground team leaders and 20 ground emergency service cadets. It also has been active in community service, participating in four search and rescue missions and raising money for the Diabetes Walk-a-Thon.

The squadron's commander, Maj. Richard Bullock of Crownsville, being recognized as the Maryland Wing commander of the year.

Storyteller to dramatize black history tomorrow

Black history will come to life when storyteller Len Cabral visits the North County Library at 7 p.m. tomorrow.

Mr. Cabral, co-founder of Sidewalk Storytellers, shares with his audience the folklore of America, Africa and the West Indies through song, poetry, music and mime.

The free program is geared to children ages 6 and up. Registration is not required, but seating is limited.
