Neall invites public comment on 1995 budget at 3 meetings

January 30, 1994

Anne Arundel residents interested in lobbying County Executive Robert R. Neall on what they want kept in or taken out of the fiscal 1995 budget will have the opportunity at three public meetings next month.

The budget for operating expenses, which Mr. Neall will submit to the County Council on May 2 and will go into effect July 1, is expected to rise by about 7 percent.

Although county officials expect to collect about $47 million in additional revenues, most of it will be consumed by personnel costs, including 4 percent employee raises and Social Security costs for teachers and community college employees that were previously picked up by the state.

The county's operating budget for the fiscal year ending June 30 is $663 million.

The meetings are scheduled for:

* Tuesday, Feb. 15, at Meade Senior High School.

* Thursday, Feb. 17, at South River High School.

* Thursday, Feb. 24 at Severna Park Elementary School.

Each meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. Department heads will be available for individual consultation at 6:30 p.m. Anyone requiring special accommodations should call 222-1288 (voice) or 222-1825 (TTY) five days before the meeting.
