California Angels -- Signed P Shawn Hillegas to a minor-league contract. Announced that Mike Hartley will pitch in the Japanese Pacific League in a settlement reached with Seattle Mariners. Hartley, a free agent, had signed with the Angels and was sold to Chiba Lotte. Confusion arose when Hartley was placed on Double-A Midland's roster and was claimed by the Mariners.
Cincinnati Reds -- Signed IF Bret Boone, P Steve Foster, P Jerry Spradlin, P Kevin Jarvis and P Jeff Pierce to one-year contracts. Named Dan Siegel trainer of rookie-level Princeton.
