Restaurant has been smoke-free for a year

The Olive Branch Restaurant in Normandy Shopping Center in Ellicott City has been smoke-free for a year. The restaurant banned smoking in all dining areas in February 1993.

Management says that there has been no significant decrease in business and that they have received compliments and praise from customers.

Customer pressure led to the decision, since on many Friday and Saturday nights, the smoking section remained empty while customers were waiting for tables in the nonsmoking section.

POLICE LOG

* Ellicott City: 2800 block of Country Lane: Someone attempted to forced open a front door Monday.

3200 block of Sonia Trail: The front door of a vacant house was forced open Sunday, and property was taken.
