Man, 76, badly hurt when car overturns

The 76-year-old driver of a 1980 Chevrolet that overturned on Hampstead Mexico Road on Monday afternoon remained in serious and stable condition yesterday at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

Joseph T. Ross of the 2300 block of Hampstead Mexico Road was flown to the trauma center by state police helicopter after the 2 p.m. accident. Police said Mr. Ross was eastbound on the highway when his vehicle apparently slid on ice and crossed the center line at Snydersburg Road before it hit the guardrail and flipped over.


* Manchester: Manchester and Hampstead responded for a hazardous materials incident in the 2900 Block of Warehime Road at 12:33 p.m. Monday. Firefighters discovered a 100-pound propane tank with a minor leak, which they were able to stop. They were out for 28 minutes.

Manchester was dispatched to investigate a fire alarm sounding in a building in the 4200 block of Backwoods Road at 9:29 p.m. Units were out five minutes.

Manchester responded for an auto fire in the 4200 block of Hanover Pike at 2:43 p.m. Saturday. Units were out 29 minutes.
