Fla. man is indicted in deaths of 2 women

January 25, 1994

An Anne Arundel County grand jury indicted a 22-year-old Florida man yesterday on two counts of first-degree murder and two handgun violations in the killing of his fiancee and another woman, both of whom were shot to death in Severn last month.

Darris A. Ware, whose last permanent address was in Fort Pierce, Fla., was indicted in the Dec. 30 shooting deaths of Betina Krista Gentry, 18, and Cynthia Vega-Allen, 22.

Prosecutors said yesterday they still were weighing whether to seek the death penalty in the case.

Mr. Ware, who is being held in the county Detention Center, was arrested after Ms. Gentry's mother found the bodies in Ms. Gentry's home in the 1900 block of Bastille Court about 1:30 p.m. Dec. 30.

Ms. Gentry was pronounced dead inside the home. Ms. Vega-Allen died Dec. 31 at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center.
