David Dochtor, 14, has been selected as a member of the 1979 Region I Olympic Developmental Soccer Team that will travel abroad to compete against other national and top club teams.

Sixteen players representing 17 states were selected.

As a member of the state Olympic Developmental Program, Dochtor made final cuts from a regional pool that included up to 40 players.

In February, the U.S. team travels to Bermuda for its first games in the Diadora Cup.

Dochtor is also a member of the under-14 1993 Maryland State Cup Champion Top Gun's soccer team.

He also has earned accolades as a recreation player, once scoring all three goals in a 3-0 championship win in the Mountain Road Tournament.

Last fall as a freshman, he was a varsity team member at center forward for John Carroll School, where he maintains a B+ average.
