Trinity Lutheran School receives $300 grant

Trinity Lutheran School in Joppa has been awarded a $300 grant for the 1993-1994 school year by Aid Association for Lutherans, a fraternal benefit society based in Appleton, Wis.

The association's Lutheran Elementary School Grant Program is designed to enable Lutheran elementary school faculty members through in-service training.

Lutheran elementary schools that include first grade were eligible to apply for the $300 grants. The funds may be used for consultants, speakers and resource materials for in-service training.

Consultants will discuss teaching strategies, classroom organization and management, interpersonal relationships and communications, and a teacher's role in promoting the school and in ministering to families' needs.

The aid association provides educational grants of more than $2.7 million annually to Lutheran colleges, seminaries, high schools and elementary schools across the country. A total of $450,000 was offered to 1,500 schools.

Experience offered in science, engineering

The Army Chemical and Biological Defense Command will participate in the 1994 Science and Engineering Apprentice Program, which provides experience in scientific research.

The program offers high school students apprenticeships in science and engineering. Students are assigned to a participating Defense Department laboratory to pursue experiments with scientist and engineers from June 20 to Aug. 12.

The student is required to write a paper on the work done and present it orally at the end of the program.

Each student receives a $1,300 stipend to compensate for expenses.

The program is administered by George Washington University under contract with the Defense Department. Deadline for applications is Feb. 1. Information: (202) 994-2234.
