1. GYC Builders held a grand opening Wednesday at River Ridge in Ellicott City, where the company is building nine three-level town homes with views of the Patapsco River.

An elevator comes as a standard feature in five of the 2,800-square-foot homes. All the houses will have a living room fireplace, gas heat and cooking, six-panel interior doors, front porch and rear deck included in the $279,900 price.

On the home's first level is a powder room, study with bay window, library and two-car garage.

The second level features a two-story foyer leading to the third level, a kitchen with a center work island and walk-in pantry, sunken living and dining rooms, a den with bay window and optional two-sided fireplace and a second powder room.

A vaulted-ceiling master bedroom with a walk-in closet, soaking tub and separate shower is found on the top floor. Two more bedrooms, a second full bath and a laundry room also occupy this level.

The sales center is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Tuesday. Take Frederick Road (Route 144) west toward Ellicott City. Just before the bridge crossing the Patapsco River, make a right on Oella to River Ridge on the right.

Quail Run

2. Winchester homes opened two town-home models Jan. 15 at Quail Run in Anne Arundel County, where the company is building four houses from its Towne Series. The community is about three miles from the Baltimore-Washington Parkway.

All the homes have gas heat, three bedrooms, one full and one half bath, living and dining rooms, hardwood foyers, six-panel colonial interior doors, fully equipped kitchens and unfinished basements, which can be finished with an optional recreation rooms.

The Arlington model is a 1,185-square-foot, three-level town home with a starting price of $113,990. There is a box-bay window in the kitchen.

The other model is the Dorchester, which contains 1,343 square feet, with a base price of $121,990. The home has a sunken living room, box-bay window in the kitchen and a master bath equipped with a soaking tub. A loft option is available.

There is no model for the 1,243-square-foot Clairmont, which is priced from $121,990. This home can be built with dual master bedrooms and a loft with dormer windows.

The final home offered at Quail Run is the Essex. This 1,300-square-foot town home comes with a kitchen equipped with a walk-in pantry or optional first-floor laundry room. A walk-in closet is standard in the master bedroom.

Quail Run is near Harmons Park and the Friendship Recreation area.

The models open at 11 a.m. Go south on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway to east on Route 175. Go about one mile to a left on Ridge Road (Route 713), to a right on Severn Road and to Quail Run on the right.
