Cleveland Indians -- Agreed to terms with P Russ Swan on a minor-league contract and invited him to spring training.

Colorado Rockies -- Agreed to terms with P Kent Bottenfield and IF Pedro Castellano on one-year contracts.

St. Louis Cardinals -- Agreed to terms with IF Geronimo Pena on a one-year contract.

San Francisco Giants -- Named Keith Bodie, Ray Sadecki and Mickey Brantley roving minor-league instructors.


NBA -- Fined New York Knicks F Charles Oakley $3,000 for elbowing Vinny Del Negro of San Antonio during a game on Jan. 19.

Boston Celtics -- Activated F/C Alaa Abdelnaby from the injured list. Placed C Matt Wenstrom on the injured list.

Detroit Pistons -- Signed F/C Charles Jones to a 10-day contract. Placed C Danny O'Sullivan on the injured list.

Los Angeles Lakers -- Placed G Anthony Peeler on the injured list.

Orlando Magic -- Signed assistant coach/C Tree Rollins to a second 10-day player contract.

Phoenix Suns -- Waived C Tim Kempton. Activated F Jerrod Mustaf from the injured list. Placed G Danny Ainge and G Duane Cooper on the injured list. Signed G Elliot Perry to a 10-day contract.

Portland Trail Blazers -- Activated G Clyde Drexler from the injured list. Placed C Kevin Thompson on the injured list with tendinitis in his right Achilles heel.


Missouri-Kansas City -- Announced that all of its athletic programs will join the Mid-Continent Conference in the 1994-95 season.

Northeast Louisiana -- Named Ed Zaunbrecher football coach.

VMI -- Named Tom Throckmorton defensive coordinator; Mike Clark quarterbacks coach; Danny Hammerschmidt defensive backs coach; Bill Legg offensive line coach; Donnie Ross running backs coach; and Bobby Solderitch defensive line coach.


AFC -- Named Pittsburgh Steelers' Eric Green to the Pro Bowl team as a replacement for injured Keith Jackson of Miami.

Cincinnati Bengals -- Named Bruce Coslet offensive coordinator.

New England Patriots -- Announced that owner James Busch Orthwein has agreed to sell the team to Robert Kraft, pending approval by the NFL.


International Tennis Federation -- Fined Ivan Lendl of the United States $1,000 for abusive language during a match at the Australian Open. Fined Goran Ivanisevic of Croatia $350 for ball abuse.
