Gary E. Greer


Gary E. Greer, a lawyer who practiced in Hyattsville and Severna Park and was a leader of the Greater Severna Park Athletic Association, died Sunday of cancer at the Crofton Convalescent Center. He was 47.

The Millersville resident was born in Washington, D.C., and reared in College Park. He graduated from Northwestern High School in Hyattsville and the University of Maryland College Park. He earned his law degree at American University.

He had been a member of the athletic association, also known as the Green Hornets, since the late 1970s, when he became a soccer and basketball coach. He was a former president and director of the association.

He also had represented the association in obtaining county permission to build a clubhouse and other facilities at Kinder Park.

A Mass of Christian burial was to be offered at 10 a.m. today at Our Lady of the Fields Roman Catholic Church, 1069 Cecil Ave. in Millersville.

He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Ann Knight; two sons, Matthew E. Greer and Michael K. Greer, both of Millersville; his father, George F. Greer of College Park; and a sister, Donna Carpenter of Dunkirk.

Insurance executive

Donald A. Hamilton, president of a Hunt Valley insurance company, died Sunday after a heart attack at his home in New Freedom, Pa. He was 55.

He came to the Baltimore area about 2 1/2 years ago as the first president of USA Risk Intermediaries. He spent his working life in the insurance business, most recently in Miami as general manager of the local office of the McDonough Caperton Insurance Group, of which he was a senior vice president.

The Denver native served in the Navy in the late 1950s and was a graduate of the University of Denver.

A memorial service was planned for 1 p.m. today at the J. J. Hartenstein Mortuary in New Freedom.

He is survived by his wife, the former Faye Lemke; two sons, Bradley S. Hamilton of San Leandro, Calif., and Josh J. Hamilton of New Freedom; a daughter, Jodi S. Hamilton of Redmond, Wash.; his parents, Weldon B. Hamilton and Grace M. Hamilton of Sun City, Ariz.; and a brother, Jerry Hamilton of Upland, Calif.
