Patterns

January 18, 1994|By Robert H. Deluty

Over time, he and his brother,

Sole survivors of unspeakable trauma,

Replaced closeness, support, laughter

With anger, envy, bitterness.

Unforgotten, unforgiven sibling sins

Kept them distant, alone

Until the elder died.

His grown sons witnessed as children

This relentless brotherly erosion, and

Now appear incapable of halting

A pride-driven repetition.
