Mervo has look of winner in MSA B Conference

Mervo, coached by Dwight Warren and assistant Ron Taylor, looks increasingly like the favorite to win this year's Maryland Scholastic Association B Conference dual-meet crown.

The host Mustangs won the weekend's Eastside Tournament with champs in sixth-ranked heavyweight Shawn Brodie (12-1), McAnthony Thompson (130, 13-0), Terry McNair (103, 8-3) and Millard West (119, 9-3).

Wednesday, the Mustangs (6-0), coming off last 70-0 shutout of Patterson, visit two-time defending league champ Walbrook, which last week suffered its first loss, 40-33 to St. Mary's.

St. Mary's was the league champ two years ago before being dethroned by Walbrook, also the defending city tournament champ.

A victory over Walbrook would turn the Mustangs' Feb. 9 meeting at St. Mary's into the showdown for the league title.
