Rogers sparks Lake Clifton over Edmondson, 117-90

Shawnta Rogers scored 26 points and handed out a career-high 20 assists as Lake Clifton (7-2) defeated host Edmondson, 117-90, in a Baltimore City 4A boys basketball game yesterday.

Rogers was one of five players who scored in double figures for the Lakers, who made 53 field goals. Reggie Frazier contributed 25 points and Terrence Payne scored 16 and grabbed 14 rebounds. Keon Posey topped Edmondson with 33 points.

* Southern-B 83, Patterson 70: Damon Cason scored 26 as No. 1 Southern-Baltimore, ranked No. 5 nationally by USA Today, extended the state's longest winning streak to 21 by defeating host Patterson.

Kevin Simpson added 20 for the Bulldogs (7-0, 1-0), who raced to a 22-9 first-period lead. Junior forward Colin Jones led the Clippers (5-6, 0-2) with 25 points.

* Arundel 76, Southern-AA 72: Sean Soyars scored seven of his game-high 32 points in the final quarter, helping host and No. 16 Arundel (7-3) over No. 7 Southern-AA (6-2), in an Anne Arundel County game.

* Poly 71, Carver 56: Clinton Young scored 16 points to lead No. 18 Poly (7-3, 3-0) past visiting Carver (2-7, 0-2) in a Baltimore City 2A-3A league game. John McLean added 15 for the Engineers. Gerald Ragler and Douglass Weddington led Carver with 17 and 14 points, respectively.

* Walbrook 76, Mervo 61: Junior forward Travone Broadway scored a game-high 26 points to lead No. 11 Walbrook (4-3, 2-0) past Mervo (1-7, 0-2) in a Baltimore City 4A League game. Corey Hartz had 18 points for the Mustangs. Antwon Jenifer added 17 for the Warriors.

* Severn 66, McDonogh 64: John Vereen's breakaway layup with two seconds remaining in regulation lifted No. 15 Severn (14-2, 6-0) past host McDonogh (4-4, 4-1) in an MSA B Conference game.

* Loyola 77, Edgewood 66: Tim O' Hara scored 16 points and Mike O'Neill added 12 as No. 19 Loyola (8-6) defeated visiting Edgewood in a non-league game. Julius Christy led Edgewood with 15.

Girls basketball

* Western 65, Patterson 35: Chanel Wright scored a game-high 26 points as top-ranked Western (9-1, 5-0) defeated visiting Patterson (6-6, 2-2) in a City-Wide 4A League game. Danielle Davis added 15 points for the Doves, who led 30-20 at halftime.

* Annapolis 68, North County 42: Shannon Henderson had a triple-double with 30 points, 27 rebounds and 10 assists as No. 18 Annapolis (6-4, 3-2) won its fifth straight by defeating host North County (3-5, 2-4) in an Anne Arundel 4A League game. Senior guard Christie Samaras scored 18 for the Panthers.

* Poly 68, Dunbar 21: Angela Brice scored 16 points and Kelly Logan added 11, leading No. 15 Poly (9-2, 9-0) over Dunbar (1-3, 1-3) in a City-Wide 2A-3A League game.

* Arundel 46, Southern-AA 40: Chavonne Hammand had 11 points to lead No. 20 Arundel (8-2) over visiting Southern (5-5) in an Anne Arundel County game.
