Chesapeake Treasures promotes fine sewing

The Chesapeake Treasures, a local chapter of the Smocking Arts Guild of America, meets at 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month, from September through June. SAGA was established to encourage and promote smocking and fine hand sewing.

The Thursday meeting, at Crofton Middle School, will feature a demonstration on hemstitching by hand.

The Greater Crofton Republican Women will hold a neighborhood meeting at 7:30 tonight at Crazy Otto's, 1357 Defense Highway.

The meeting will include an update on the National Federation of Republican Women's activities. At 8 p.m., members will watch a live satellite telecast of "Neighborhood Meeting," featuring Lamar Alexander, former governor of Tennessee and cabinet member for former President George Bush. The public is invited to attend.

The Bowie-Crofton Bridge Club is seeking new members for its weekly contract bridge sessions. The club meets Mondays from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Prince of Peace Presbyterian Church, 1657 Crofton Parkway. The winners last month were Ruby Richards, Bill Slusher and Art Becker.

The Greater Crofton Chamber of Commerce will hold a business networking breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. tomorrow at the Crofton Convalescent Center, 2131 Davidsonville Road. The cost is $7 for chamber members, $12 for non-members. Reservations are required. Call 721-9131.
