Two 18-year-old men and a 16-year-old boy, all of Columbia, were arrested Sunday and charged in connection with the thefts of about 25 four-wheel-drive vehicles in East Columbia since late December.

Howard County police made the arrests after the three youths allegedly stole two Jeep Cherokees early Saturday and used the stolen vehicles to destroy parts of a pavilion and fitness course at Lake Elkhorn in Owen Brown.

Alexi Martinez, of the 9300 block of Gentle Folk, was released yesterday from the Howard County Detention Center on $10,000 bond. Adam Matthew Fattori, of the 8900 block of Blade Green, was released on $20,000 bond. The 16-year-old boy was released into his parents' custody, police said.

The three were charged with vehicle theft and other charges are pending, police said.

Police said they expect to make more arrests. All of the stolen vehicles have been recovered, police said.

The thefts began on Dec. 25, when about 2 inches of snow fell in the area. The thefts, primarily in and around the Lake Elkhorn area, have increased in the last two weeks as additional snow and ice came, police said.
