Kelly George

School: Centennial High School

Hometown: Columbia

Age: 17

Kelly recently won the Girl Scout's Gold Award -- the Girl Scout's equivalent of an Eagle ranking. She led a two-hour workshop on the environment for younger Girl Scouts to fulfill her community and leadership service requirement. The younger Girl Scouts, in turn, earned their environmental badges.

She has been involved with the Girl Scouts for 11 years. Throughout high school, she has volunteered at the Maryland Science Center as a counselor for numerous "camp-ins," when scouts from Maryland and Pennsylvania spend a weekend at the center to explore different aspects of technology and science.

Kelly is a 4.0 GPA student at Centennial and belongs to the National Honor Society. She is a Maryland Distinguished Scholar Finalist and a leader in the school's International Club. She was French Club vice president last year.

Plans: Kelly wants to study French and education in college. She wants to become a teacher.

Her comments: Being in the Girl Scouts "has taught me a lot about independence, respect and maturity," she says. "I really enjoy it. The people I am a Girl Scout with, some of them I've known since I was in second grade."
