Gun foes going to Annapolis rally

The Howard County Delegation of Marylanders Against Handgun Abuse will participate in a rally Jan. 17 in Annapolis to support legislation to control handguns and ban assault weapons for private use in Maryland.

Petitions in support of legislation can be signed from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow at tables positioned in Columbia village centers and in the Normandy and Enchanted Forest shopping centers.

The list of supporters is to be presented to the legislature. Sarah and James Brady and government leaders and candidates will also speak at the rally.

County residents will leave by bus or car from the Oakland Mills Meeting House at 5885 Robert Oliver Place at 4:30 p.m. and return at about 9 p.m.

* Long Reach: 9100 block of Helaine Hamlet Way: A blue 1987 Jeep Cherokee with Maryland tags AAT60P was stolen Monday or Tuesday.

* Oakland Mills: 5500 block of Etta Court: Bedrooms were ransacked and a VCR and jewelry was taken Tuesday after someone broke a rear basement window for entry.
