Southern boys win at buzzer

Cory Contee hit a driving layup at the buzzer to give No. 7 Southern-AA (5-1) a double-overtime boys basketball victory over Surrattsville of Prince George's County, 96-95, last night.

Ryan Petska, who had eight points and 14 rebounds, put in a miss by Contee to send the game to a second overtime at 86-86. Chatney Howard led the host Bulldogs with 36 points. Scott Krandell added 14.

Both teams turned the ball over before getting off a last-second shot at the end of regulation.

* Poly 89, City 79: Brian Scott scored 18 points and had 10 rebounds to lead host Poly (5-3) over No. 20 City in a Baltimore City 2A-3A league game.

* Southern-B 85, Carver 46: Top-ranked Southern (6-0) beat host Carver in a nonleague game. Senior guard Kevin Simpson had 24 points, five assists and nine rebounds.

* St. Mary's 76, Archbishop Spalding 39: Junior forward Annet

ta Davis scored 26 and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead host No. 5 St. Mary's (10-2, 2-0) over Spalding (1-9, 0-3). Sophomore forward Tara Foran added 12 for the Saints.

* Towson 68, Owings Mills 19: Sarah Weaver scored 15 to lead No. 9 Towson past visiting Owings Mills (4-4).

* Severn 51, Roland Park 39: Monique Jennings scored 19 to lead visiting Severn past Roland Park in an AIS A Conference Red Division contest.

* Southern-AA 57, Surrattsville 36: Lekeka Wesley and Lekeshia Mullen combined for 29 points and 16 rebounds, as Southern-AA defeated host Surrattsville-PG in a nonleague game.

* Seton Keough-C 53, Mercy 44: Meghan Donovan and Katie Sparks scored 13 each to lead visiting Seton Keough (7-4, 2-1) over Mercy (6-4, 2-1) in a Catholic League game. Mercy's Christina Williamson led all scorers with 15.

* Bryn Mawr 51, Catholic 36: Bryn Mawr's Emily Hickman was the leading scorer with 16, as the Martians defeated Catholic (3-8).
