Man charged with assault and battery, burglary

A 35-year-old Westminster man was arrested Saturday and charged with burglary and related counts, city police said.

Randolph Scott Martin was arrested after he allegedly broke into an apartment in the 200 block of E. Main St.

He was charged with breaking and entering, malicious destruction of property, disorderly conduct and two counts of assault and battery.

According to court records, the man, who police said appeared to be intoxicated, broke into the dwelling of Dana Shifflet, a former friend, and her son, Kevin, 6, and struck both.

When removed from the apartment by police, Mr. Martin allegedly shouted abusive comments toward the woman.

* Westminster: A Reisterstown resident told city police someone stole her purse on New Year's Eve while she was visiting Champs, in the first block of West Main St.

A Maple Street resident reported someone stole her 1988 Chevrolet Corsica from the parking lot of St. John Church on Monroe Street on Monday. The vehicle is valued at $5,000.

FIRE

* Westminster: Westminster and Reese responded for a fire alarm in a building on John Street at 5:02 a.m. Monday. The units were out for 25 minutes.
