Carroll County's Retrievers Swim Club placed first in the recent New York State Team Championships.

In winning, the locals outpaced a field of 41 squads from New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Michigan, New Jersey and Canada.

The meet, held at State University of New York at Buffalo, drew over 900 swimmers aged 8-18.

A number of Retrievers scored team points by placing in individual events.

They were:

Jason Kay: boys 9-10 50-yard freestyle-second, 200 freestyle-4th, freestyle-6th, 100 individual medley-6th, 50 butterfly-7th, 100 butterfly-9th.

Ben Becker: boys 11-12 100 breaststroke-8th, 50 breaststroke-13th.

Matt Easterday: boys 11-12 200 freestyle-2nd, 500 freestyle-2nd, butterfly-3rd, 100 freestyle-3rd, 50 freestyle-4th, 50 butterfly-5th, 100 individual medley-7th, 50 backstroke-8th.

Megan Straehle: girls 11-12 200 freestyle-5th, 50 freestyle-13th, 100 freestyle-15th.

Abby Lindsay: girls 11-12 100 butterfly-16th.

Jamie Ludwig: girls 11-12 50 breaststroke-12th.

Rebecca Sirman: girls 11-12 100 backstroke-14th.

Marie Tomarelli: girls 13-14 100 butterfly-5th, 200 breaststroke-12th, 400 individual medley-14th.

Shannon Jones: girls 15-18 100 breaststroke-16th, 200 breaststroke-11th.
