* 75-pounders -- The Howard County Youth Hockey Club Pee Wee A's finished second out of eight teams over the weekend in the Level A Thunderbird Holiday Tournament in Pennsauken, N.J.

The Huskies won three preliminary games before falling to the Rochester Americans in the finals.

Howard opened the tournament with a 7-3 win over the Gladiators. With the game tied at 3 in the second period, the Huskies broke it open with four unanswered goals.

Adam Clark led the way with three goals, Chris Kobus had two goals and Philip Down had three assists.

In the second game, the Huskies defeated the Haverford Hawks, 5-2. After Haverford took a 1-0 lead with 3:45 left in the first period, Adam Levinson scored for Howard 25 seconds later to tie the score at 1.

Clark, Levinson and Bobby Steen each added goals to break the game open. The Huskies used persistent defensive pressure, led by goalie Lenny Bernard and defensemen Cedric Cato, T. J. Clay, Zach Martinez and Robby Falk, to kill 30 minutes in penalties.

The team then made it three straight with a surprising 8-2 win over the host Thunderbirds. Howard took a 6-0 lead after the first period and never looked back. Steen led the way with four goals and an assist.

The championship game, however, was a different story.

Handicapped by injuries, illnesses and a suspension, Howard was no match for a strong Rochester team that eased to an 11-3 win.
