Motorist guilty of indecent exposure

January 04, 1994

A 35-year-old Westminster man who was arrested in September after driving nude in Taneytown was convicted yesterday of indecent exposure.

Robert S. Rhone Jr. of the 800 block of Old Taneytown Road

pleaded innocent to the charge but allowed a prosecutor to present a statement of facts that contained enough evidence to convict him.

When he was arrested in the parking lot of the Sheetz convenience store Sept. 6, he didn't explain to police why he was driving around naked.

A woman had reported to Taneytown police Officer Paul Wingate that a man was sitting nude in his car in the 400 block of E. Baltimore St.

Officer Wingate found Mr. Rhone in the parking lot of the convenience store about 35 minutes later.

E9 Judge Raymond E. Beck Sr. set sentencing for March 7.

Man indicted 2nd time on sex charges

A 36-year-old Taneytown man, already charged with sexually molesting a neighbor who had passed out at his house in November, has been indicted on charges of molesting her when she passed out at his house in August.

In a four-count indictment filed late Thursday, Michael Steven Campbell was charged with second-degree rape, battery and third- and fourth-degree sexual offenses. Mr. Campbell had not yet been served with the indictment late yesterday.

Mr. Campbell is alleged to have sexually assaulted a 28-year-old woman who passed out at his home after drinking alcohol Aug. 24, the indictment said.

Mr. Campbell has already been charged with molesting the same woman when she passed out at his home Nov. 19.

The defendant was released from the Carroll County Detention Center in the November case on Dec. 6 on an unsecured bond.
