Sno-Ball Express ready to roll through Catoctin Mountains

January 02, 1994

The EnterTRAINment Line is ready for Old Man Winter with a series of Sno-Ball Express train rides on Sundays, starting today and running into spring.

The Sno-Ball Express will originate in Union Bridge and go through the Catoctin Mountains to Blue Ridge Summit, Pa. The 50-mile round trip takes 3 1/2 hours.

The train will pass through Keymar and Detour before climbing the Catoctin mountains, rounding the horseshoe curve at Sabillisville and finally reaching the crest of the mountains in Pennsylvania.

Passengers can enjoy an all-you-can-eat buffet on the ride, as well as beverages, including beer and wine, that are included in the ticket price. Mixed drinks are extra.

"Many rail enthusiasts have ridden this stretch of track and confirmed that this is one of the most scenic routes on the East Coast," said Don Golec, president of the EnterTRAINment Line.

Trains will depart at 1 p.m. every Sunday and selected Saturdays. Tickets are $41 for adults and $15.20 for children.

Luncheon buffet passengers will be seated in one of several climate-controlled cars, each with its own bartender and car attendant.

For those who just want the ride and not the buffet, tickets are $18 for adults and $11 for children 12 and under. Sandwiches, soda, beer and wine will be for sale to passengers.
