BALTIMORE CITY

* SHOOTING: Southern District -- An unidentified man was in critical condition at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center after being shot in the head early Wednesday morning while seated in his car. Southern District police responding to an accident in the 3100 block of S. Hanover St. shortly after 2 a.m. found a compact car up against a guardrail. When the driver was removed from the car, police noticed he had been shot in the head. Police said evidence at the scene indicated the bullet that hit the man was fired from outside the car. It was not immediately known if the shooting occurred where the man was found or elsewhere. Police said that the man had no identification on him and that the car bore temporary tags.

* BURGLARY: Southern District -- Someone entered a house in the 900 block of W. Lombard St. through a rear kitchen window Tuesday and stole several Christmas gifts of unknown value.

* ROBBERY: Northern District -- Two men, one with a handgun, robbed the Beauty Outlet in the 3200 block of Greenmount Ave. of an undisclosed sum of money Tuesday. The money was taken from a cash register and a safe.

* STOLEN CAR: Northern District -- A 1984 Buick owned by a resident of the 3900 block of Chatham Road with Maryland tags RTL245 was stolen Tuesday from the 2300 block of Flax Terrace.

* CARJACKING: Northern District -- A resident of the 300 block of E. 21st St. was getting gas at a service station in the 2500 block of Greenmount Ave. Tuesday when a man got into the victim's 1991 Ford van and drove away. The van has Maryland tags 532625M. Police said the victim failed to remove the key from the ignition while he was fueling the car.

* STABBING: Northern District -- A resident of the 2600 block of Boone St. was listed in fair condition at the University of Maryland Medical Center after being stabbed in the upper torso with a 6-inch knife by another man during an incident Tuesday in the victim's home.

* THEFT/ARREST: Northern District -- Police arrested a teen-age boy who attempted to leave Basics food store in the 5300 block of York Road Tuesday without paying for items that had a total value of less than $10. The youth was released into the custody of his parents.

* THEFT/ARREST: Northern District -- A woman was arrested Tuesday when she attempted to leave the 7-Eleven store in the 600 block of W. 33rd St. without paying for a cheeseburger that police found hidden under her jacket.

* STOLEN CAR: Northern District -- A 1988 Mazda with Maryland tags WHL737 was stolen from the 5800 block of Pimlico Road Tuesday.

* THEFT/ARREST: Western District -- A girl attempted to steal property valued at nearly $250 from 16 Plus in the 2400 block of Liberty Heights Ave. Tuesday and was arrested.

* ASSAULT: Western District -- A resident of the 2100 block of W. Fairmount Ave. was in the 2100 block of Herbert St. Tuesday when he was attacked by a man who struck him with a bottle. The victim was not seriously injured and the assailant escaped.

* ROBBERY: Western District -- A gunman robbed a resident of the 1400 block of Division St. of cash and property, all valued at nearly $150, in the 1500 block of Presstman St. Tuesday.

* ROBBERY: Western District -- Four men attacked a resident of the 2400 block of Winchester St. near his home Tuesday and robbed him of property of unknown value.

* ROBBERY TRY: Central District -- A resident of the 1400 block of Eutaw Place was near his home Tuesday when a youth attempted to rob him. The victim fled the scene, causing the youth to run away.

BALTIMORE COUNTY

* BURGLARY: Cockeysville District -- Someone entered two model homes in the first block of Culmore Court between Friday and Tuesday by breaking windows and stole two kitchen ranges, two dishwashers and two microwave ovens, all valued at more than $1,100.

HARFORD COUNTY

* VANDALISM: Fallston -- Someone threw a section of an outside telephone booth through the kitchen window of a house in the 2100 block of Oaklyn Drive Tuesday, causing at least $500 damage to the window, the window frame and the kitchen itself.
