Street closings changed for First Night on Friday

December 29, 1993

Plans by the City of Annapolis to close upper Main Street at 5:30 p.m. on New Year's Eve have been altered.

Earlier plans had the upper section of Main Street closed to accommodate the expected crowds attending the "First Night" events.

The Annapolis Police Department has announced the following changes:

* The police will be prepared to close Main Street any time after 5:30 p.m. as the situation requires. It will remain open as long as, in the judgment of police officers at the scene, pedestrians are not endangered by vehicles on the street.

* Should the situation call for closure, vehicles will be allowed access to the Gorman Street entrance to the Hillman Parking Garage off Main Street. Francis Street will be open to vehicular traffic as well.

* In order to prepare for the possible closing of upper Main Street, parking will not be allowed above the restricted area beginning at 5:30 p.m.
