Dumping near recycling bins irks residents

December 28, 1993

Hampstead residents are concerned about increased dumping around recycling bins placed on a municipal parking lot in the northwest area of town.

The bins, placed on the lot to provide a recycling area for people outside town who do not have curbside recycling, have been filled to overflowing.

People are also dumping materials such as cardboard, which is not accepted at the recycling spot.

Mayor C. Clinton Becker said the site will be checked regularly and attempts will be made to curb the unsightly dumping.

He said the materials in the bins do not help the town meet its recycling quota.

The bins were placed there by the county to help meet its recycling requirements.
