3 robbers accost man, steal wallet at gunpoint

Police are searching for three robbers who held up a 35-year-old Baltimore man at gunpoint Thursday in the parking lot of the Montgomery Ward Auto Express store on Ritchie Highway.

Donn McPherson, of the 400 block of E. 22nd St., told police he was approached by three young men on the parking lot at about 5 p.m. When Mr. McPherson refused one of the men's demand for money, the robber pulled out a handgun and placed it against his head.

The man removed a wallet from Mr. McPherson's pants, and the three then fled on foot toward Ritchie Highway.

Woman's purse stolen near entrance to Sears

A 72-year-old Linthicum woman had her purse snatched outside the Sears on Ritchie Highway yesterday afternoon.

Mary Hope Grantland, of the 900 block of Lynvue Avenue, was approaching the rear entrance of Sears when a man grabbed her by the throat and snatched her purse, county police reported.

Several witnesses tried to help the woman, but the robber was able to escape when a small blue vehicle pulled up, police said.

The robber was described as a white man, 25 or 26 years old, with dark brown, shoulder-length hair, a mustache and a slight growth of beard. He was wearing gray sweat pants and a dark blue sweat shirt.

Realtor establishes scholarship program

Long & Foster Real Estate Inc. has established a scholarship program, offering 25 $1000 scholarships throughout the mid-Atlantic region.

The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of need, academic achievement, leadership and community service.

Applications may be picked up at Glen Burnie High School or the local Glen Burnie Long & Foster residential office, 7348 Ritchie Highway. The application deadline is March 1.
