Northern-Calvert edges Old Mill on late three-pointer, 55-54

Northern-Calvert's Earl Griffin hit a three-point basket from the baseline with two seconds left to edge host Old Mill, 55-54, in overtime of a boys basketball game yesterday.

Griffin scored a game-high 18 points.

Senior Todd Singleton scored 13 to lead the Patriots (1-3).

* Broadneck 52, Severna Park 43: Jason Smith scored 15 to lead

* Centennial 66, Liberty 46: Senior guard Kurt Weitzal scored a game-high 14, including a 3-for-3 performance from three-point range, as Centennial defeated visiting Liberty (2-4) in a nonleague game. The Eagles (4-2) extended their winning streak to four games.

Girls basketball

* Friendly 61, South River 43: Jampa Campbell scored 15, as visiting Friendly (4-1) defeated South River (3-3). Pam Patterson led the Seahawks with 17.

* Hammond 57, Stone Ridge (Va.): Kacy Williams and Sonia Keiner led the way with 16 points each to lead No. 2 Hammond (3-0) past visiting Stone Ridge (Va.).
