Morton's closes its doors looks for new digs

Morton's, a fine foods and spirits shop, says it plans to move from its 10 W. Eager St. location at the end of January. In a newsletter sent this month to customers, Morton's owners Robert and Janis Talbott said an "unrealistic" rent and decreasing sales were the reasons for the move.

They said they are in the process of looking for a new location for their Mount Vernon business, which, over the past nine years, has won several awards from area magazines and newspapers for its food and wine service.

In Atlanta, a spokesman for the owner of the building, Confederation Life, said the insurance company acquired the Baltimore property in a 1992 foreclosure. The spokesman, Conrad Nelson, declined to comment on the particulars of the case. Mr. Nelson also declined to say what plans the company had for the property.
