The Bulldogs claimed the area's No. 1 ranking for the first time since the end of the 1989-90 season with two wins at the Function at the Junction Mixer at Coppin State, beating Largo, 82-60, on Thursday and then upsetting No. 1 Dunbar, 72-71, on Friday. Next game: Tomorrow against Northwestern.

2. Dunbar (3-1, 188) -- Last week's ranking: 1. At the Function at the Junction Mixer, the Poets defeated Walbrook, 74-59, on Thursday, and lost to Southern-Balto., 72-71, ending a 14-game winning streak. Next game: Dec. 27 at Altoona (Pa.) Tournament.

3. Lake Clifton (3-1, 181) -- Last week's ranking: 3. Thursday, Reggie Frazier scored 23 points in an 83-59 victory over Potomac in the Function at the Junction Mixer. Shawnta Rogers had 28 in an 85-56 victory over Largo on Friday. Next game: Tomorrow against No. 5 Southwestern.

4. Cardinal Gibbons (7-2, 166) -- Last week's ranking: 4. At the Bullis Prep Christmas Tournament, the Crusaders defeated Pallotti, 104-64, in the opening round on Friday and Bishop O'Connell, 59-57, in the semifinals on Saturday. Yesterday, in the final, they lost to Good Counsel, 85-77. Next game: Tomorrow against Hammond.

5. Southwestern (4-0, 159) -- Last week's ranking: 5. Ernie Evans scored 17 points in a 90-53 victory over Douglass on Tuesday. Friday, Evans had 21 and 11 rebounds in a 78-68 victory over Poly. Next game: Tomorrow at No. 3 Lake Clifton.

6. Woodlawn (3-0, 151) -- Last week's ranking: 6. Friday, Brian Stubbs scored 15 points in a 79-40 victory over Franklin. Next game: Wednesday against No. 15 Dundalk.

7. Southern-AA (2-1, 136) -- Last week's ranking: 8. Chatney Howard had 32 in a 103-55 victory over Hammond on Friday. The Bulldogs' game with National Christian tomorrow was postponed. Next game: Tomorrow at Great Mills.

8. Walbrook (2-2, 132) -- Last week's ranking: 7. Antwon Jenifer scored 14 in the Warriors' 74-59 loss to Dunbar on Thursday at the Function at the Junction Mixer. Friday, Travone Broadway scored 13 in a 53-50 overtime victory over Potomac. Next game: Jan. 7 against Patterson.

9. Milford Mill (2-0, 108) -- Last week's ranking: 9. In a 60-56 victory over Glenelg on Wednesday, Blanchard Hurd scored 24 points. Next game: Wednesday at Catonsville.

10. Annapolis (3-1, 104) -- Last week's ranking: 10. Rodney Watts scored 24 points in an 84-71 victory over Old Mill on Tuesday. Twelve players scored in a 104-63 victory over Severna Park. Next game: Wednesday against No. 11 Mount St. Joseph.

11. Mount St. Joseph (4-3, 85) -- Last week's ranking: 11. The Gaels were defeated by Good Counsel, 63-49, on Tuesday. Friday, Ray Smith scored 17 in a 60-57 victory over Aberdeen. Next game: Today against Northeast.

12. Broadneck (1-0, 84) -- Last week's ranking: 13. In their season opener Friday, the Bruins got 25 points from Jason Smith in a 68-53 victory over Patterson. Next game: Today against No. 14 Arundel.

13. St. Frances (3-2, 68) -- Last week's ranking: 14. The Panthers lost to St. John's Prospect Hall, 75-64, on Tuesday, but came back to beat Forest Park, 78-74, on Friday. Kevin McClain had 28 in a 68-55 victory over Bishop Walsh on Saturday. Next game: Dec. 28 at Rocket Round Ball Classic in Waynesboro, Pa.

14. Arundel (4-0, 63) -- Last week's ranking: 15. Bakari Ward scored 26 points in a 75-71 victory over North County on Tuesday. Thursday, Sean Soyars had 27 in a 95-56 victory over Chesapeake-AA. Next game: Today at No. 12 Broadneck.

15. Dundalk (3-1, 47) -- Last week's ranking: 12. The Owls suffered their first defeat of the season, to Perry Hall, 79-67, on Wednesday, before rebounding with a 54-52 victory over Dulaney on Friday. Next game: Wednesday at No. 6 Woodlawn.

16. Edgewood (2-1, 45) -- Last week's ranking: 17. Eric Biggs scored 20 points and had 18 rebounds in a 72-52 victory over Atholton on Tuesday. Next game: Dec. 29 at Meade Tournament.

17. Mount Hebron (4-0, 38) -- Last week's ranking: Not ranked. The Vikings enter the Top 20 after two victories last week. Kurtis Jestes scored 17 points in a 73-54 victory over St. Paul's on Tuesday. Jestes had 34 in a 77-51 over Loyola on Friday. Next game: Tomorrow at Linganore.

18. Severn (9-2, 34) -- Last week's ranking: 19. The Admirals topped St. Mary's, 73-47, on Tuesday and Friends, 68-50, on Thursday. Friday, in the opening round of the Collegiate Christmas Classic, four players scored 14 in a 71-46 win over St. James. In the championship game on Saturday, Alhamisi Simms scored 25 in a 75-60 victory over Collegiate. Next game: Tomorrow at John Carroll.

19. Perry Hall (5-0, 32) -- Last week's ranking: 20. Wednesday, Mark Franklin scored 27 points in a 79-67 victory over Dundalk. Matt Banks scored 16 in an 81-33 victory over Parkville on Friday. Next game: Wednesday at Lansdowne.
