COLONIAL CHRISTMAS

Yuletide events abound this weekend in Fells Point, where visitors will be treated to an "Olde Fashioned Candlelight Christmas." Activities include:

* Horse-drawn carriage rides from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. today, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. tomorrow and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. A small fee is charged ($3 for adults and $2 for children).

* Free tours of the lavishly decorated Robert Long House, 812 S. Ann St., from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and tomorrow, and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

* Free lamplighters' tours departing from Market Square at 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. today and tomorrow, and at 5 p.m. Sunday. The tours are free.

* Festive chimes fill the air at 8 p.m. tomorrow. The Choral Bell Ringers will perform free in the first-floor parlor of the Admiral Fell Inn, 888 S. Broadway.

Programs listing all activities can be obtained at Fells Point pubs and restaurants.

'HALLELUJAH,' WITH A BANG

The Handel Choir of Baltimore spreads some holiday cheer with a free performance of Christmas music at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Harborplace Amphitheatre.

You'll hear songs from "Messiah" as well as traditional favorites, such as "Deck the Halls," "O Come All Ye Faithful" and "Silent Night." The harmonies culminate with a mini-fireworks display choreographed to the "Hallelujah Chorus."

In case of rain, the concert will move indoors to the Light Street Pavilion.

BIRTHDAY WISHES

Kids are invited to put crayon to paper in a competition sponsored by the Babe Ruth Museum, 216 Emory St. Kids will make birthday cards in honor of the baseball legend's 99th birthday. Children can go to the museum any day through Jan. 30 to make their colorful salutes, which will be judged in three age groups: 3 to 6, 7 to 9, and 10 to 12. (Supplies will be provided by the museum.)

Among the prizes are a youth membership to the museum, a free children's birthday party, books, T-shirts and posters. Winners will be announced at the museum's annual, free, Babe Ruth birthday bash on Feb. 6. Hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Information: 727-1539.

MARIONETTE MAGIC

Take the kids to see a children's version of the "Nutcracker Suite," performed by the Bob Brown Puppeteers at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the National Aquarium. Admission: $5 for members, $8 for nonmembers. Information: 576-3800.

SEASONAL TIPS

Get pointers on Sunday about putting together a Christmas garden from the creators of a 1950s-era train garden now on display at the Peale Museum, 225 Holliday St.

The open house from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at the museum will feature a slide show narrated by Tom Hooper and storytelling by Mike McCartney. Enjoy refreshments from the Woodlea Bakery. Information: 396-1149.
