* BURGLARY: Western District -- Someone entered a house in the 2300 block of Lauretta Ave. through a basement door Wednesday and stole a TV set valued at $400.

BALTIMORE COUNTY

* OFFICER ASSAULTED/ARREST: Towson District -- A man who bailed out of a 1990 Honda Prelude after a three-car accident at Joppa Road and Goucher Boulevard Wednesday night was charged with assaulting a police officer and an X-ray technician at St. Joseph Hospital. The suspect, Bruce W. Smith, 31, of the 3200 block of Reisterstown Road, was caught at Providence and Joppa roads shortly after the accident and was sent to the hospital after complaining of neck pain. At the hospital, Mr. Smith reportedly spit on X-ray technician Aubrey Eyler, 34. The technician suffered a sprained wrist when he tried to restrain the patient. Officer Peter Grippi, who was guarding the patient, also was restraining the man when the suspect butted the officer in the face with his head, breaking Officer Grippi's nose. Police said Mr. Smith was charged with two counts of assault, assaulting a police officer, driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident. He was being held at the station pending a bail hearing. No one was injured as a result of the car accident.

* BANK ROBBERY: White Marsh District -- A man who implied he had a handgun robbed the Maryland National Bank at the Golden Ring Mall, in the 6400 block of Rossville Blvd., of an undisclosed sum of money Wednesday afternoon. After entering the bank at 3 p.m., the man implied he was armed and gave a teller a note demanding money and warning her not to include an exploding dye-pack with the money. The man fled on foot, running toward Rossville Boulevard.

* ATTEMPTED RAPE: White Marsh District -- A 17-year-old student at Overlea High School in the 5400 block of Kenwood Ave. was arrested Wednesday and charged as a juvenile with attempting to rape a 16-year-old student in a school stairwell. Police said the victim was about to enter a first-floor restroom around 1:30 p.m. when the suspect called to her. In the stairwell, the boy removed his jeans and was removing the girl's slacks when she cried out and fled. She told another girl about the incident, who informed a school official. The boy was released to the custody of his parents.
