Santa plans to bring his cheer to Northern District Police Station

Christmas is just 12 days away. Have you taken your children to see the man in red?

No? Well, bypass the crowded malls and take your kids to the Northern District Police Station on Hammonds Lane.

The station is sponsoring "An Evening with Santa" from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Dec. 23. Children will receive a treat from Santa, and light refreshments will be served.

Harbor Hospital Center is sponsoring an international exhibit of 60 color and black-and-white photographs illustrating health care methods from around the world. Called "The Power to Heal: Ancient Arts and Modern Medicine," the exhibit will be open from a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays from Friday to Jan. 10.

Part of the hospital's 90th anniversary celebration, the show tells a story of courage, faith and caring that healers witness every day. The exhibit will be open on weekends by appointment.

Belle Grove Elementary School news: To help brighten spirits during the holiday season, the sixth-grade chorus will perform at 9:45 a.m. Thursday at the Meridian Nursing Center on Hammonds Lane.

Brooklyn Park Elementary School news: It's Burger King Night tonight! With the busy pace of the holidays, take time to eat dinner between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Burger King on Nursery

Road. Children in attendance can win prizes. Proceeds will benefit the playground fund.

* Students will meet author Richard Stack and his "wonder dog" Josh at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. Stack, who wrote "The Doggonest Christmas," will share his writing experiences with the children.

North County High School news: The Band Parents will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the band room. The group will discuss coming events and the band's trip in April to Florida.

If you're looking for a different gift for someone, consider making a donation in that person's name to the Brooklyn United Methodist Church, 401 Pontiac Ave. Your special person will receive acknowledgment of the gift.

* The choir is conducting a fund-raising campaign to purchase new robes. To contribute, call the church at 355-8740.

Brooklyn Heights United Methodist Church, 110 Townsend Ave., will present the Children's Christmas Program at the 11 a.m. worship service on Sunday.

The children of St. John Lutheran Day School, 226 Washburn Ave., will present their annual Christmas programs this week.

The nursery, pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classes will perform musical selections at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow.

Students in grades one through six will star in a pageant called "Baa, Baa, Bethlehem" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

A bake sale will be conducted at both programs.
