IN SUPPORT OF SABS

Editor: I and many of my friends in and out of the state of Maryland have eaten at Sabatino's many times. I disagree with Elizabeth Large wholeheartedly [Dining Out, Oct. 10]. The service and the food are very satisfactory. As for her saying the bread was stale, that's hard to believe. I understand Sabs gets fresh bread delivered twice a day. I have never experienced an incident like that.

Her opinion is an isolated case. Sabs is always well-staffed and all the customers keep coming back. So Miss Large, thousands of people must be satisfied.

A TRIP TO REMEMBER

Editor: "On the Trail of Lewis and Clark" [Oct. 17] was especially interesting to me as my husband and I were among the 44 passengers on that particular cruise last October. Writer [Nancy Hoyt] Belcher did not mention, however, that the passenger list was almost equaled by a cadre of travel writers, photographers and company publicists.

Nonetheless, nothing could diminish the feelings of awe at the vast changes in terrain and temperature that were encountered on the voyage. No wonder Meriwether Lewis felt that anything that came later was anticlimactic.

Thank you for letting me relive it.

DIGS 'DIRT'

I certainly enjoy Mike Klingaman's "Real Dirt" articles. As a "retired" gardener I've had many a good laugh, and must say it's the first article I read on Sunday morning. Keep up the excellent work.
