Vegetarian cookbook is art for heart's sake

December 12, 1993|By Chicago Tribune

Devotees of Mollie Katzen's "Moosewood Cookbook" and "The Enchanted Broccoli Forest" long have admired the charming illustrations that pepper the pages of her counterculture vegetarian cuisine.

Then, along came her "Still Life with Menu Cookbook," containing 48 pastel renderings amid the 200 meatless recipes.

Many fans have requested reproductions of the serene paintings. In response, the author/artist has gathered 20 of her favorite full-color prints in a 12-by-9-inch paperback volume, "Mollie Katzen's Still Life Sampler" (Ten Speed Press, $12). Each page of heavyweight paper contains perforations so the prints can be removed and framed.

Ms. Katzen has included 16 recipes on cards suitable for a recipe file.

Look for the new book at bookstores and health-food stores. Then get thee to a framery.
