Christina Little of Gaithersburg, and Jennifer Stritch of Baltimore, both May graduates of Goucher College, and Chauna Brocht, a senior from Baltimore, have been elected to the college's Phi Beta Kappa chapter.

Faye A. Spencer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Spencer, received the C. May Diekmann Music Scholarship for 1993-'94 from Towson State University.

Nine John Carroll High School seniors were named in the National Merit Scholarship program. George Roth of Havre de Grace was a semifinalist and Leila S. Bahm of Aberdeen, George Hall of Fallston, Matthew Heflin and Nathanial Heflin of Jarrettsville, Suhail Mithani of Bel Air, Megan Olsen of Jarrettsville, Eddie Park of Havre de Grace and Brian Vollmer of Bel Air were named Commended Students.

James H. and Mary Hortop Bready of Gladstone Avenue celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Dec. 4 with a party at their home.

Baltimore City College students Curtis Cooper of East Gittings Avenue and Jason Hase of East Northern Parkway achieved semifinalist status in the National Merit Scholarship competition.

A short story written by Kate Malloy, a junior at Mount de Sales Academy, has been included in "The Friendship Tree and Other Stories for Children by Children," published by Vangar Publishers.
