Millersville man appointed county head of state agency

December 10, 1993

William Smouse, who has served as acting county supervisor of the state Department of Assessments and Taxation since July, permanently assumed the post this week.

Mr. Smouse, a 50-year-old Millersville resident, has been with the state assessor's office for 23 years and was assistant to Kenneth Tschantre, the previous county supervisor, for the past seven years.

He supervised a team of assessors, for seven years and then headed the county's commercial staff for three years before moving to the assistant supervisor's slot.

The assessor's office just completed a review of properties in Annapolis, South County and the West County area from Crofton south. Notices with the new assessments will be mailed to property owners Dec. 28.
