Delegate to be honored

The Audubon Society of Central Maryland, a chapter of the National Audubon Society, will honor Del. Virginia N. Thomas as Conservationist of the Year in an awards ceremony at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Florence Bain Senior Center on Beaverkill Road.

Ms. Thomas, a District 13-A Democrat, is vice chairwoman of the Environmental Matters Committee of the House of Delegates.

She is being honored for her efforts on behalf of the Chesapeake Bay by working to reduce solid waste in landfills and for cleaner air and water.

* Dorsey's Search: 5600 block of Columbia Road: Two Volkswagen cars -- a red 1990 Jetta and a red Passat -- were stolen Sunday or Monday. Police pursued the drivers of the Jetta into Baltimore but did not catch them. The Jetta had Maryland tags XXD364, and the Passat had Maryland tags AFT049.

* Town Center: 5800 block of Wyndham Circle: A refrigerator was stolen from a home under construction Dec. 2 or 3. Police said there were no signs of forced entry.

10400 block of Little Patuxent Parkway: A would-be thief tried to steal a 1992 Mitsubishi Diamante on Monday. A witness saw the suspect flee in a white Honda with Virginia tags 2YC8087.

5500 block of Vantage Point Road: Someone attempted to steal a 1990 Mitsubishi Galant on Sunday or Monday.

5600 block of Vantage Point Road: A 1987 Chevrolet Nova stolen in Baltimore County was found Monday parked in a spot where residents said it had been for three months.
