Public can see landfill's files

December 10, 1993

The Department of Public Works has established an administrative record designed to keep the public informed about the removal of hazardous waste at the Carrs Mill landfill near Lisbon.

The department reports that more than 400 buried drums have been placed at the site.

The file contains all records relating to removal activities and the environmental assessment on the site.

The file is available to the public at the Department of Public Works, Bureau of Environmental Services, George Howard Building, 3430 Court House Drive, Ellicott City.

The record includes analyses of water samples from monitoring wells on the site, results of the hazardous substances contained in the buried drums. Also included in the report is the plan for removal of the drums and maps of the affected area at Carrs Mill.

The public is invited to provide written comments during the next 30 days on issues relating to the removal plan.

A public meeting on the drum removal operation will be held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Lisbon Fire Station community hall.
