Orioles -- Agreed to terms with DH Harold Baines and IF Tim Hulett on one-year contracts.

Boston Red Sox -- Signed IF Jeff Richardson and IF Jose Munoz to minor-league contracts.

Chicago White Sox -- Announced a working agreement with Single-A Prince William for the 1994 season.

Cincinnati Reds -- Promoted scouting supervisor Larry Barton Jr., to senior adviser for baseball operations. Named Terry Abbott pitching coach and Tommy Dunbar coach of Double-A Chattanooga and Steve Oliverio pitching coach of Pioneer League Billings.

Cleveland Indians -- Agreed to terms with P Dennis Martinez on a two-year contract and 1B Eddie Murray on a one-year contract.

Florida Marlins -- Agreed to terms with P Charlie Hough on a one-year contract.

Philadelphia Phillies -- Traded P Mitch Williams to the Houston Astros for P Doug Jones and P Jeff Juden.

Basketball

NBA -- Suspended Utah Jazz Tom Chambers for one game and fined $5,000 for elbowing Denver Nugget LaPhonso Ellis in the side of the head in Tuesday's game. Suspended Ellis for one game and fined $5,000 for hitting Chambers in the head with a forearm.

Colleges

Lou Groza Award -- Named Florida's Judd Davis the winner of the award as the nation's top place-kicker.

NCAA -- Named Ron Bazil to the Division I men's and women's track and field committee and John Kreis Division I men's and women's tennis committee.

Ashland -- Named Gary Keller football coach.

North Carolina State -- Announced F Migjen Bakalli has quit the basketball team.

St. Louis -- Named Marilyn McReavy Nolen women's volleyball coach.

Hockey

NHL -- Suspended New York Ranger Alexei Kovalev for five games for a tripping incident with Washington Capital Dale Hunter.

Buffalo Sabres -- Recalled F Scott Thomas from AHL Rochester.

Montreal Canadiens -- Recalled F Craig Ferguson and F Oleg Petrov from AHL Fredericton.

St. Louis Blues -- Recalled C Nathan LaFayette and D Dan Laperriere from IHL Peoria.

Vancouver Canucks -- Recalled C Rick Girard from WHL Swift Current.

Washington Capitals -- Called up C Kevin Kaminski from AHL Portland.

Soccer

European Champions Cup -- Announced that the number of teams will be cut to 16 next year in an effort to create more games between Europe's biggest clubs.

NPSL -- Named Spirit goalie Cris Vaccaro co-recipient of the Player of the Month award after compiling a 6-0 record. He leads the league in points-against with a 10.97 average. Vaccaro shared the award with the Cleveland Crunch's Zoran Karic, who leads the league with 43 points.

Harrisburg Heat (NPSL) -- Traded G Joe Mallia to the Dayton Dynamo for a fourth-round draft choice and an undisclosed amount of cash. Placed M David Bascome on the disabled list, retroactive to Nov. 17.

Houston Hotshots (CISL) -- Named Chico Borja coach.

Track and field USA Track & Field -- Selected Sacramento's Hughes Stadium as the site of the June 1995 Championships.
