Students: Seniors Dezi Jim, Jeane Kim, Stephanie LeCompte, Ossai Miazad, Jamie Smith, and junior Lisa Richmond of Glen Burnie High

Accomplishments/Interests: The students, members of the Glen Burnie High School Dance Company, recently performed at Marley Station mall as part of its Christmas season opening.

With the exception of Jeane, who joined the group last year, the girls have been with the ensemble since their freshmen years.

The group, directed by Dianne Rosso, will be performing at the mall again at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Dec. 11. Additional shows are scheduled during the holiday season at two area senior citizen centers, the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Christmas Brunch and at their school's Christmas assembly.

Some of the girls have been dancing since they were very young.

Lisa Richmond, 16, began dancing when she was 2 and danced with a professional company. But she says she has learned a lot from Ms. Rosso. "I've found there were more opportunities working with Diane," she says.

Lisa hopes to receive a dance scholarship to college.

Stephanie LeCompte, 17, prompted by her mother at the age of 3 to start dancing, recently received an honorable mention as she auditioned for the Maryland Distinguished Scholarship for the Arts.

According to Stephanie, Ms. Rosso has inspired her and the other members of the group. "Everything that we have done or accomplished -- we owe it all to Ms. Rosso," she said.

Stephanie would like to be a dance instructor.

Glen Burnie is the only high school in the county with a dance company, part of which takes its act on the road. Last year the group was one of only two chosen from high schools in a nationwide audition to perform at the National Dance Association of America convention in Washington.

The Touring Dance Company performs programs for area groups and organizations for a nominal fee. For more information, contact Ms. Rosso at 761-8950, ext. 244.
